Ruth Forbes Sherry wrote from the Mojave, the Pacific coast, and the charged middle years of the twentieth century, bringing evolutionary science, war, drought, machinery, and the stubborn continuities of human feeling into the same field of vision. Her poems appeared across several decades in books and little magazines, yet most of that work has long been difficult to reach. This edition resets the complete surviving text of Imperishable Gene, restores ten poems from periodical witnesses, and prints two further poems preserved by an online index while marking what remains unlocated.
